Nilgiri Tahr is one of the seriously endangered animals. This sanctuary is specially setup to preserve these animals. Eravikulam National Park constitute the largest known population of tahrs existing in the world. Park also shelters elephants, sambars, gaurs, lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, tigers and leopards. Munnar is the nearest town, which is connected to Kottayam (148 km.) and Ernakulam (130 km.) by road. There is a motorable road upto Rajamally and then onwards the travel is on foot which is really enjoyable.
