Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala, india

Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in avifauna and reptiles. Elephants, sloth bear, sambar, mouse-deer etc. are found in this sanctuary. Sanctuary is easily accessible from Kannur. The headquarters of the sanctuary is near Iritty, a small town about 55 kms from Kannur. October to June is the ideal time for tourists to visit the area.

Forest Area

The prime attractions of the place are the tropical evergreen and west coast semi evergreen forests. There are about 490 ha of teak and eucalyptus plantations within the forest area.

Animals in Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

Different kinds of deer, boar, elephant, bison, leopard, jungle cat and types of squirrels are sighted.

Climate at Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

The temperature at foothills varies from 21°C to 40°C and at the higher reaches from 8°C to 25°C. Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary receives an annual rainfall of about 3,000 mm. The wettest part of the year is from June to August (south-west monsoon).

How to reach Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary

The access is by road from Thalasseri (40 kms) and Kannur (45kms). The nearest railway station is Thalassery. The nearest airport is Kozhikkod, 113 kms from Irutti.
