Kappil emerges as water sports destination

The backwaters of Kappil in Thiruvananthapuram district was in the news recently as an aqua sailing camp held here turned out to be a big hit. The event was organised by the Southern Air Command in association with the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Members of tourism clubs in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha participated in the camp. The adventure cell of the Indian Air Force gave training to the camp members. A spectacular show marked the end of the five-day camp in which the members exhibited their skills in aqua sailing and water-skiing. Talking to media persons, Air Marshal S.Y. Savur, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, said that Kappil is an ideal location for water sports. Such events are conducted to boost self-confidence of the youth, he added. The event proves that tourism and aqua sports can be combined successfully, said Mr. M. Subramanian, Secretary, DTPC.
