Sivarathri Manappuram is at Aluva. Sivarathri Festival at Aluva Manappuram is very popular festival in Kerala. The festivities and held in every February-March during the Malayalam month of Kumbam during the Mahasivarathri. The remembrance of Lord Shiva who consumed the deadly Kalakoodam poison to save the world is the theme of the festivities. This is a famous cultural event held every year in Kerala. Many Malayalam movies and literature use the Sivarathri Manappuram at Aluva as their backdrop. Special Poojas, prayers and offerings along with many cultural programs and abhishekams of idols are held during the week long festival. Aluva Manappuram at Alwaye on the banks of the Periyar incite a very nostalgic theme in the minds of people from Kerala. Sivarathri Festival is a must see festival if you visit Kerala during February-March. All night cultural programs and festivities offer a very special occasion for the foreign tourist who visit Kerala during this time to understand and learn the fascinating and ancient culture of Kerala.
