Arthunkal is 22 km north of Alappuzha famous for the St. Sebastian's Church which is an important Christian pilgrim centre. Annual festival - Arthunkal Perunnal - the feast of the patron saint is held in January. Arthunkal is a famous pilgrim centre, known for its St. Andrew's church set up by Portuguese missionaries. The church is popularly known as St. Sebastian's. It was built by the Portuguese missionaries in 1851 AD.
