Alleppey is the gateway to the inland water ways of Kerala. Cruise through small canals passing paddy fields, villages and small water lodged town-ships to enjoy the scenic beauty and to get a glimpse of the unspoiled rural life of Kerala. Backwater boat cruises are conducted by Alleppey Tourism Development Co-operative Society and Daily backwater tours are also conducted by he District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).

Alappuzha - Quilon -Alappuzha Dawn to Dusk Backwater Cruise

• Backwater cruise (8 hours). Departure: 1030 hrs. from DTPC boat jetty. Fare: Rs. 150/-.
• Half way journey from Alappuzha to Alumkadavu/ Alumkadavu to Kollam: Rs. 100 (Concession offered to International Student Card holders). Tour covers Karumadikuttan Buddha idol, Kumarakody, Math Amrithanandmayi Madom, Alumkadavu.
  Wayside attractions: Chinese fishing nets, coir making, vast paddy fields, typical Nalukettu Kerala houses and everything else that make Kerala unique.
• Explore Kuttanad Boat Cruise: Alappuzha - Kumarakom - Alappuzha: (Departure 1000 hrs from the DTPC boat jetty) Fare: Rs. 75 per head.

A full day cruise between Alleppey  - Quilon through the winding backwaters, enjoying the lush enchanting greenery all around, basking in the Sun and watching traditional fishing, rural life in Kuttanad and coastal villages and retting process of coconut husk. You are free to choose the direction of the journey from Alleppey to Quilon or Quilon to Alleppey, depending  on your convenience.

Tourist Boat Cruises

The mechanized and motorised tour section of DTPC has a wide range of luxury boats and speed boats for backwater cruises on the Vembanadu.

• Kaliyodam (luxury cruiser): Capacity: 50 pax Rs. 300 per hour Rs. 2,500 per day.

• Pamba (luxury cruiser): Capacity: 30 pax Rs. 150 per hour. Rs. 1,400 per day.

• Raja Hamsam (speedboat): Capacity: 4 pax. Rs. 400 per hour.

• Safari No. II (Safari boat) Capacity: 6 pax. Rs. 250 per hour.
