Padmashree Dr. Kattassery Joseph YesudasAbout K J Yesudas
K J Yesudas is India's foremost exponents of classical, carnatic, vocal music and leading playback singer. Kattassery Joseph Yesudas was born on January 10, 1940 in Fort Cochin. His teacher was his own father, Mr. Augustine Joseph who was a classical music singer himself and a stage actor. Over the years, he learned from many teachers in Cochin and through his discipline and dedication, emerged as one of the best Singer in Malayalam. His first movie playback song was for the movie Kalpadukal, in 1961. He was conferred with the Padmashree in 1973 and Padmabhushan Award from the president of Indiain 2002. He has sung more than 40,000 songs in various languages and is a recipient of numerous awards nationally. His second son Vijay Yesudas, is an upcoming musician himself following the tradition of his father. Awards received by K J Yesudas
He is the receipient of the national award for best playback singer seven times: Manushyan Mathangale Srishtichu (Achanum Bappayum-Malayalam) in 1972, Padmatheerthame (Gayatri-Malayalam) in 1973, Gori Tera (Chit Chor-Hindi) in 1979, Akashadeshamu (Meghasandesham-Telugu) in 1985, Unnikale Oru Kathaparayam (Unnikale Oru Kathaparayam-Malayalam) in 1987, Ramakatha Ganalayam (Bharatham-Malayalam) in 1991 and for songs in the film Sopanam in 1993. He is a consistent receipient of the Kerala State awards for more than 20+ times. His birthday is 10 Jan 1940
