Vadakkumnathan
Monday, May 22, 2006 | MP

Vadakkumnathan is a brilliant musical family film from director Shajoon Karial. It gives much importance to music and rarely movies of this genre are made. Music director late Ravindran had composed music for the film and all the songs are highly appreciative. Mohanlal excels in the role of Bharath Pisharody, a Sanskrit scholar who runs away from his home on his wedding day. And when he is finally found by his family members he is altogether a different and disturbed man. Padmapriya who plays his lady love is impressive. Murali, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Kavya Madhavan all does justice to their respective characters. Songs are pictured well and S.Kumar camerawork deserves special mention. Though a little lengthy this family drama told in a musical theme is definitely worth a watch.

Ilayaraja's songs has nothing much to offer. It would have been better if little more attention was paid on to the script.
