V S justifies Governor
Thursday 11 June 2009
The in differences in the CPM over the party's stand to protect party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan became all the more public with the Kerala Chief Minister openely justifying the Governor's move to allow CBI to prosecute Vijayan in the SNC Lavlin case. Responding to questions at Wednesday's Cabinet briefing, V S Achuthanandan stood by the Governor's decision. "There has been similar cases, where some Governors have used their discretionary powers to study and examine the circumstances of such cases and arrived at similar decisions. There are also precedents of the Supreme Court having endorsed such decisions. So there is nothing surprising about what has happened here," he pointed out. With V S sticking on to his stand, the CPM central leadership is in a dilemma over how to handle the issue in an amicable manner. --MP
