Supreme Court To Consider New Dam Proposal

AJ: The Supreme Court observed that it will consider the new dam proposal put forward by Kerala Government to solve the Mullaperiyar issue between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, in January 2008. The apex court observed this while considering the written explanations given by both Kerala and Tamil Nadu in connection with the issue as per its direction.
The court will also consider whether its earlier verdict on the issue to be reviewed or not. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court ordered the Kerala government to raise the water level of Mullaperiyar dam to 142 ft as demanded by Tamil Nadu. But, the Kerala Government had filed an appeal in the apex court raising safety concerns and put forward a new dam proposal instead.
