Thursday, 6 December, 2007
AJ: A ship carrying 6000 metric tonnes of palmoil has once again arrived at the Beypore port. It has been reported that the vessel-MPST Pinchill has arrived from Indonesia with the oil. The oil from the vessel which arrived yesterday night is being taken to the shore via barges. The oil is being imported by a private company in Kozhikode.
Police have been deployed in the area to avoid untowardincidents as widespread protests against the import of oil exist. The DYFI members gathered at the harbour in large numbers and raised slogans against the import. They also sought a blanket ban on import of palmolein. Volunteers of the Indian Farmers Movement (INFAM) later joined them in blocking the off-loading operations.
