The Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), which commenced on December 1, will promote the tourist and economic interests of Kerala. The 45-day event will promote the 'Made in Kerala' brand and will enlarge the markets for traditional, spice and manufactured products. Mr. T.
Balakrishnan, Principal Secretary, Industries and Dr. Venu V., Secretary, Kerala Tourism informed that over the next five years, the shopping festival would become an international event.
Coinciding with the tourism and pilgrim seasons of the state, the fete is expected to benefit both the traders and the retail outlets of Kerala. The fete has also arranged attractive discount deals and lucky draws with prizes totaling Rs.100 million, to attract foreign and domestic tourists.
Dr. Venu V., informed that the government is trying to make the festival operationally flawless. "We are prepared to experiment with new ideas like night shopping and exclusive pedestrian corridors in commercial areas", he said.
