Resul Pookutty described in his reply to felicitation Thrissur as "a land that celebrated sound through a world-famous traditional festival, Pooram". He has called for improving the quality of cinema theatres in the country. "About 80 per cent of people in the country live on a per capita consumption of less than Rs.20 a day. They pay Rs.40 or so to watch a film. They should be provided basic comforts in theatres. Policy-makers should take this into consideration," he added. He said he was happy to note post-Oscars that the approach to sound in cinema had changed. "But overnight changes always frighten me. I hope such changes do not lead into a kind of activism." He said he was overwhelmed by the affection showered on him by the people of Kerala. "Months after the Oscars, people still honor me. I have responded to the affection by offering them a film, 'Pazhassi Raja'."
