Ujala-Asianet Film Awards; `Pazhassiraja' best film, Mammootty Millennium actor

The Ujala-Asianet Film Awards 2009 announced. Mammootty was selected as the Millennium Actor. The best film award has gone to `Pazhassi Raja' directed by Hariharan. Mohanlal won the Best Actor award for his performances in `Bhramaram’ and `Ividam Swargamanu’ and Kavya Madhavan was selected as the best female actor for her performace in `Banaras'.
Ranjith was selected as the best director for ‘Paleri Manikyam, Oru paathira Kolapathakathinte Katha.’ Prithwiraj was selected as the Youth Icon of the year and Lakshmi Rai as Popular Heroine (Ividam Swargamanu, 2 Harihar Nagar, Chattambinadu). The best character award goes to Sreenivasan for his roles in `Passenger' and `Makante Achan'. Best Character actress is Swetha Menon (Paleri Manikyam), Lalu Alex was selected as the best villain for the film `Ividam Swaragamanu', best comedian is Jagadeesh (2 Harihar Nagar), Ranjith Sankar was selected as best screenplay writer (Passenger), Vayalar Saratchandrav Varma is the best lyricist (Neelathamara), best music director is Deepak Dev (Puthiyamukham), Sankar Mahadevan is the best male singer (film; Puthiyamukham, song Picha vacha naal muthal), best female singer is K.S. Chithra (Kunnathe konnakkum, film Pazhassi Raja), Baby Nivedita was selected as best child artist (Bhramaram, Kaanaakanmani), Jayasoorya and Roma as best star pair (Uthara Swayamvaram), best debutant actor is Nishan (Rithu), best debutante actress is Archana Kavi (Neelathamara), best cinematographer is Ajayan Vincent (Bhramaram) and Vijay Sankar has bagged the award for best editing (Bhramaram).
The special jury award goes to Sarat Kumar (Pazhassi Raja), Manoj K.Jayan (Pazhassi Raja) and Kaniha (Pazhassi Raja, Bhagyadevatha). Producer P. V. Ganadharan has been conferred the Lifetime Achievement award. Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will be given a special prize for outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. The awards, in 25 categories, were announced by Asianet senior vice-president, programmes, R Sreekantan Nair at a press conference on Sunday at Thiruvananthapuram. The winners of the awards other than the special jury awards were selected on the basis of nominations from the viewers. The winners would also be presented statuettes conceived by Artist Namboothiri. A four-hour star night to be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in Thiruvnanathapuram on January 16 for the distribution of awards. The function would be attended by top actors of the Indian film industry. The programme would contain dance, song and skits by top artistes of the Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil films. Supreme Court dismisses plea to include `Pazhassi Raja' in IFFI

Supreme rejected the plea to include `Pazhassi Raja' in the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which will be closing tomorrow at Goa. The plea was filed by Pazhassi Raja Trust and Pazhassi Raja Foundation pointing that there were irregularities in the selection process and the jury rejected `Pazhassi Raja' without watching the film. The court observed that they were not experts to finalise whether the movie is good or bad. It is up to experts, who were assigned by the Government from the film industry to watch and select cinemas to showcase in the Festival. Labels: Pazhassi-Raja

Pazhassi Raja, Malayalam version releases on October 16; Exempts from Tax

Finally Pazhassi Raja, the magnum opus project of MT-Hariharan team will be released in 130 centres across Kerala on October 16. Gokulam Gopalan, the producer of Pazhassi Raja in a press release informed that Kerala Government has exempted the film from entertainment tax considering its historic value. Tamil version will be released on October 30. English, Hindi and Telugu versions are also ready. But release dates were not announced. Gopalan said ``This was a project of 26 crores. The film which exceeded three and half hours was cut short to three hours. I am confident that this film will be accepted by viewers having true spirit of patriotism.'' Meanwhile Mamootty fans have decided to welcome the film with revelry on the releasing day. Huge cutouts of Mammooty will be erected at major releasing centres.
Though the story of `Pazhassir Raja' was based on a historical event, it experiences true love. Pazhassi Raja marries Kaitheri Maakkam after the death of his wife. Eventhough it was a remarriage, both could maintain a hearty relationship. India's freedom struggle started with the Sepoys mutiny in 1857. But before fifty years before of this mutiny, Pazhassi Raja, Kaitheri Ambu, Edachena Kungan, Thalakkal Chandu and many other brave men fought against British rule. The story features their fight against British Men. Mammootty dons the role of Pazhassi Raja and Kaniha dons the role of Maakam. Tamil super star Sarat Kumar dons the role of Edachena Kungan. This is Sarat kumar first appearance in Malayalam. Telugu- Kannada actor Suman dons the role of Pazhyaveedan Chandu. Chandu is a villan. Thilakan dons the role of Kurubranad King. He stood against Pazhasi Raja and was interested in capturing territories. Jagathy Sree Kumar dons the role of Kannara Menon, who was an employee of British Government. He depended on Kurubranaad king for his livelihood. Manoj K.Jayan dons the role of Chandu, the leader of Kuruchiar fighters. Kuriachiars are the aborigines in the forest. Padma Priya dons the role of Chandu's wife Neeli. Suresh Krishna dons the role of Kaitheri Ambu. Many British, German and Mumbai based actors are appearing in the film. The locations of 'Pazhasi Raja' were Kannur, Thalasseri, Neelishvaram, Chennai, Kudagu, Madikeri, Mysore and Mannarkad . Release of 'Pazhassi Raja' postponed to Oct 16th

The scheduled release of 'Pazhassi Raja' has been postponed again. It was scheduled to release on October 2. The new release date is October 16. The producer of the film Gokulam Gopalan and Exhibitors Federation president P.V Basheer pleaded the High court to allow them to raise the ticket rate to 50 percent from the releasing date for two months. They pointed that the film production cost was high (around 27 crores) and it has a historical and educational value. If the rate is not increased it would be difficult for them to get back the production cost. Justice P.N. Raveendran has directed the Local self government secretary to give a report. In the Hindi version of the film Sharukh Khan narrates the story of 'Pazhassi Raja'. In Malayalam Mohan Lal did the 40 second narration. In Tamil Kamal Haassan has done it. The film will get released all over India in 560 centres on October 16. The film will be released in 125 centres across Kerala. Labels: Pazhassi-Raja

Audio CD of the magnum opus project of MT-Hariharan team's 'Pazhassi Raja', contains songs was released by Mammotty at Kochi on Monday, by handing over it to Tamil super star Sarath Kumar at Gokulam convention centre in the presence of artistes. Mammooty and Sarath are appearing in lead roles in the film. The film will be released on Gandhi Jayanthi day, October 2, in five languages, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and English. The music has scored by Ilaiya Raja and lyricists are O.N.V. Kurup, Gireesh Puthencherry and Kaanesh Poonoor. With M.T Vasudevan Nair's script Hariharan has directed the film. Gokulam Gopalan is the producer. It took two and a half years to complete the film. The cost of production is approximately 27 crores . ' Think music' is distributing the CD. Producer Gokulam Gopalan, his wife Shylaja, executive producer Baiju, C. Praveen, Resul Pookutty, Ravi Varma Raja, Kaniha, Padma Priya, Jagathy, Devan, Suresh Krishna, Lalu Alex, Manjari, M.G. Sree Kumar, camera man Ram Nath Shetty attended the function. Song sequences and trailor had screened in the function. Mammotty inaugurated the website of `Pazhassiraja' in a function at Chennai on Tuesday. The site address is www.pazhassirajathemovie.com. Mammooty said, though pazhassiraja is a historical film, it projects the emotional feelings of characters. Tamil actor Saratkumar, who is appearing in an important role in the film, was also present. He said that, more historical films are made in Malayalam than Tamil. The reason is that there are producers to make such films here. In Tamil, if somebody comes forward for the venture, surely, he will act in such movies. He also invited Mammooty to act in such films. Pazhassiraja will reach theatres on October 2. Other than Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English versions of the film will be made. For this purpose, 1000 prints will be taken. Producer Gokulam Gopalan, Executive producer V.C. Praveen also spoke on the occasion. The director of the film is Hariharan. M.T. Vasudevan Nair has written the screen play. Music was by Ilaiyaraja. 'Pazhassi Raja' Shoot restarted

The shoot of `Pazhassi Raja' started around one year back. Owing to several reasons its shoot lagged. Now the shoot restarted after some months gap. It is expected to release the film on August 15. `Pazhassir Raja' is a historical film. Though it touches the pastures of true love. Mammootty joins ‘Pazhassi Raja’

AJ: Mammootty joined the sets of 'Pazhassi Raja'. The actor, who wasshooting for his Vishu film 'Annan Thampi', has completed the majority of the scenes and a few song sequences for the film. The latest blow to the schedule was an accident that happened on at Kannur, when a lorry carrying horses to the sets, overturned on to by passers, resulting in death of two persons and another couple getting severely injured. Meanwhile 'Pazhassi Raja', the magnum opus by director Hariharan will have another forty days to shoot, before getting completed. Hariharan's Magnum Opus Pazhassi Raja will be the Christmas film of Mammootty according to the latest schedules. The film which will be completed in a whooping five crore budget will hit the screens on the 25th of December. The film which is produced by Gokulam Gopalan is now being shot at Thalasserry now, but will take another eighty-five days to complete. Mammootty has allotted more than two months to complete this historical which may well become a path breaking attempt in Malluwood. The film which is made with the aids of latest technical advancements is being shot with Pan Vision camera.
