'Neelathamara' blooms around Kizhakumbattu, an ancestral home in a village. There is a temple near the home. Kunhjimalu and Sharothe Ammini arrive there daily to offer prayers . There was a belief among the people that, if anyone offers special prayer to the deity at this temple, a blue lotus will bloom in the pond near the temple. Kunhjimalu was Appukkuttan's uncle's daughter. One day Kunhjimalu was brought to Kizhakumbattu Malukutty Amma's house to do household work by Appu Kuttan. Haridas was the only son of Kizhakumbattu family. He returned home after completing higher studies. Later he fell in love with house maid Kunhji Malu. Archana dons the role of Kunhjimalu, Reema Kallungal dons the role of Sharothe Ammini, Kailesh as Haridas and Suresh as Appukuttan. They are supported by Samvritha Sunil, Devaki Amma and Joy Mathew. Lal Jose is directing the film. Screenplay by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Vayalar Sarat Chandra Varma has penned the lyrics and Vidya Sagar has scored the music. Vijay Ulaganath is wielding the camera. Under the banner of Revathi Kalamandir, Menaka Suresh Kumar is producing the film. Mammooty's `Play house' will distribute the film. The shoot is progressing at Kuttippuram.

Pooja of the film 'Neelathamara', the remake of the nostalgic work filmed in the same name in 1979, taken by Yousuf Ali Kecheri, was performed at Avenue Centre at Eranakualm. Producer T.E Vasudevan lit the lamp. M.T. Vasudevan Nair has wrought the script for the remake also. There incorporated some periodical modifications in the screenplay. Former hero of the film Ravi Kumar and heroine Ambika were present. Ambika doned the role of Kunjimalu and Ravi Kumar doned the role of Haridas. In the new film Archana, who hails from Kannur dons the role of Kunjimalu and Kalesh from Thiruvalla dons the role of Haridas. Arcahana is the VJ of India Vision- YES channel. Sathar did the villian role in the old film. In the new version Suresh, younger brother of Ambika has been cast to do the villain role named Appukuttan. Another character of the film is Sarothe Ammini. Rima Kallingal, Miss Kerala first runner up of last year has been casted. Samvritha Sunil dons the role of Rathnam. Under the banner of Revathi Kalmandir, G. Suresh Kumar is producing the film. The lyrics for the new film penned by Vayalar Sarat Chandra Varma. Vidya Sagar has scored the music. Vijay Ulaka Nath will wield the camera. The shoot will start after May 25 at Kuttipuram.

It's for the very first time a Malyalam film gets remake. M. T. Vasudevan Nair's 'Neelathamara' was made 35 years back. The nostalgic film's director was Yousafali Kecheri. M.T. Vasudevan Nair will handle the script for the remake also. Periodical modifications will be incorporated. Under the banner of Revathi Kalamandhir G.Suresh Kumar is producing the film. Vijay Loknath will wield the camera. Music is scored by Vidya Sagar. The shoot will begin in April. New comers will get chance in key roles. For the heroine, girls between the age of 16 and 18 and for hero, boys between the age of 22 to 26 can try.
