Actor Murali passes away

Malayalam-Tamil actor and Chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy Murali passed away in PRS hospital at Thirunvananthapuram on Thursday. He was hospitalised three days back since he was suffering from pneumonia. He was an acute diabetic patient. On Thursday by 8.10 p.m he died after a heart attack. He is survived by his wife Shylaja and daughter Karthika. His body will be cremated at 4 p.m today (Friday) with state honours in his property at Aruvikara, a village close to Thiruvananthapuram. Several people including culture minister M.A Baby and his wife, other ministers and prominent people from film industry reached the hospital to pay homage. Later by 9.35 p.m the body was shifted to his house 'Karthika' at Pandits colony near Kowdiar. Friday early morning his body will be shifted to his native place Kudavattoor near Kollam to pay homage for public. In the afternoon it will be kept in senate hall at Thiruvananthapuram for the people to pay homage. Murali was born in 1954. He was the son of P. Krishna Pillai and Devaki Amma. He acquired his earlier education in Kudavattoor L. P school and from his childhood days itself he started acting in drama. His higher education was in Trikannamangalam S.K.V school. During the period of his college education he was an SFI activist. After passing out his LLB exam from the Law Academy in Thiruvananthapuram he joined Government Health Department as L.D clerk and later joined Kerala university as U.D clerk. Murali left his job in the Kerala University to join cinema. He was also active in theatre and had been an integral part of the experiments conducted by Kaavaalam Narayana Panicker, Narendra Prasad and his compatriots. He started 'Natya Griham', a drama school at Thiruvananthapuram with the help of his friends. He won the national award for his performance in `Neythukaaran' directed by Priyanandanan in 2002 and State awards in 1990, '92, '96 and '99. His debut film was Bharat Gopi's 'Njaattadi', which was not released. Although he acted in Aravindan's 'Chidambaram' and Lenin Rajendran's 'Meena Masathile Sooryan' his first film to be released was 'Panchagni' of Hariharan. Later he acted in 'Amaram' of Bharathan. The film 'Aadharam' which gave him a hero image and brought the state award for best actor. 'Chamayam' , 'Magrib' , 'Saakshyam', Kanakinav, Bharatham, His Highness Abdulla, Kamaldhalam, Dhanam, Aayiram Naavulla Ananthan, Aakasa Dhooth, Venkalam, Chakoram, Valayam, Pulijanmam, Vinodayatra, CID Moosa, The King, Janam, Lal Salaam and several other films proved his ability in histrionics. `Dum Dum Dum', `Maja', etc were his Tamil films. His last work in Tamil is `Aadhavan', produced by Karunanidhi's son Stalin. In 1999 he contested in Alapuzha Parliament constituency for the Left Democratic Front against V.M. Sudheeran. Actor and Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy Chairman Murali has been admitted in P.R.S Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday after being diagnosed with serious respiratory problems.
