Malabar Chamber of Commerce has been selected superstar Mammootty for the 'Lifetime Achievement' award considering his all round contribution to the Malayalam film industry. Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has been chosen for the 'Best National Leader of the Century' award, while industrialist Anil Ambani has been named 'Best Corporate Leader'. Chamber President P. V. Gangadharan announced the awards in a press meet at Kozhikode on Wednesday. The announcement was in connection with the celebration of Chamber's 80th anniversary. The three day anniversary programme would be inaugurated by Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily on Janurary 29. Minister for overseas affairs Vayalar Ravi would also attend the function. The Ujala-Asianet Film Awards 2009 announced. Mammootty was selected as the Millennium Actor. The best film award has gone to `Pazhassi Raja' directed by Hariharan. Mohanlal won the Best Actor award for his performances in `Bhramaram’ and `Ividam Swargamanu’ and Kavya Madhavan was selected as the best female actor for her performace in `Banaras'.
Ranjith was selected as the best director for ‘Paleri Manikyam, Oru paathira Kolapathakathinte Katha.’ Prithwiraj was selected as the Youth Icon of the year and Lakshmi Rai as Popular Heroine (Ividam Swargamanu, 2 Harihar Nagar, Chattambinadu). The best character award goes to Sreenivasan for his roles in `Passenger' and `Makante Achan'. Best Character actress is Swetha Menon (Paleri Manikyam), Lalu Alex was selected as the best villain for the film `Ividam Swaragamanu', best comedian is Jagadeesh (2 Harihar Nagar), Ranjith Sankar was selected as best screenplay writer (Passenger), Vayalar Saratchandrav Varma is the best lyricist (Neelathamara), best music director is Deepak Dev (Puthiyamukham), Sankar Mahadevan is the best male singer (film; Puthiyamukham, song Picha vacha naal muthal), best female singer is K.S. Chithra (Kunnathe konnakkum, film Pazhassi Raja), Baby Nivedita was selected as best child artist (Bhramaram, Kaanaakanmani), Jayasoorya and Roma as best star pair (Uthara Swayamvaram), best debutant actor is Nishan (Rithu), best debutante actress is Archana Kavi (Neelathamara), best cinematographer is Ajayan Vincent (Bhramaram) and Vijay Sankar has bagged the award for best editing (Bhramaram).
The special jury award goes to Sarat Kumar (Pazhassi Raja), Manoj K.Jayan (Pazhassi Raja) and Kaniha (Pazhassi Raja, Bhagyadevatha). Producer P. V. Ganadharan has been conferred the Lifetime Achievement award. Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will be given a special prize for outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. The awards, in 25 categories, were announced by Asianet senior vice-president, programmes, R Sreekantan Nair at a press conference on Sunday at Thiruvananthapuram. The winners of the awards other than the special jury awards were selected on the basis of nominations from the viewers. The winners would also be presented statuettes conceived by Artist Namboothiri. A four-hour star night to be held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium in Thiruvnanathapuram on January 16 for the distribution of awards. The function would be attended by top actors of the Indian film industry. The programme would contain dance, song and skits by top artistes of the Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil films. Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (IANS) Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal reigned supreme at the popular Ujala-Asianet Malayalam film awards 2009 announced here Sunday. While Mammootty bagged the 'Millennium actor award', Mohanlal was named best actor for his role in "Ividam Swargamanu".
Mammootty had more reason to cheer as his blockbuster movie "Pazhassi Raja" was adjudged as the best film. Renjith was named best director for "Paleri Manickam", which also stars Mamootty.
The names of the awardees were announced Sunday by Asianet Television officials. The award ceremony will be held here Jan 18.

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28 (IANS) Megastar Mammootty pleased all his fans with as many as eight of his films releasing in 2009 but the actor says he was just doing his job.
The eight films that hit the screens this year were "Love in Singapore", "Daddy Cool", "Eee Patanthil Bhootham", "Loud Speaker", "Kutty Shrank", "Pazhassi Raja", "Paleri Manickam" and "Chatambi Nadu".
While the last three films are still running to packed houses across the state, "Kutty Shrank" was screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held recently in Goa and is expected to be released commercially soon.
But the superstar was modest about his work in the year gone by.
"The world has become one more year older. From my side, I will say that things went well and happiness need not be and cannot be measured about what has happened. I am doing a job and I will continue doing it in the same spirit as I have always done all these years," Mammootty told IANS.
Besides his acting assignments, Mammootty launched his own production house called Play House, which will produce and distribute films.

It is a 40 crores budget project financed by a producer form Tamil film industry. There will be Tamil and Malayalam versions. It will be a Vishu release of 2012. Bangalore, Oct 21 (IANS) Malayalam megastar Mammootty, whose recent film "Pazhassi Raja" is breaking records at the box office, has signed his first Kannada film.
The film will be directed by Abhay Simha of "Gubbachchigalu" fame. Talking to IANS, he said that his long wait to work with Mammootty has finally ended.
"I had sent the script to Mammootty sir through e-mail an year ago. He confirmed his acceptance and then his secretary got in touch with me. Then I personally went to meet him in Thiruvananthapuram. We had several discussions about the dates. Mammootty sir will finalise the dates within a few days," Simha told IANS.
In the film Mammootty plays a Malayalee settled in Karnataka. To be produced by well-known filmmaker K. Manju, the film will also be made in Malayalam and is likely go on floors early next year.
"Now, I have got a good producer who has a great passion to make films," said Simha.
Manju and Simha were in Pollachchi, Tamil Nadu Monday to finalise the deal with Mammootty who was shooting there for director Shafi's film "Chattambi Nadu".
"Now we will start looking for a heroine. We are also planning to rope in Kannada artists and technicians to work on the project," said Simha.
He has engaged Chandrashekhar, well-known associate director of Kannada films, to help him in the dialogues department. Chandrashekhar says Mammootty is very particular about his Kannada accent.
An alumni of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Simha has written the story and script of the film which deals with a successful and respectable person searching for his roots after reading some old book in his house.
Simha's "Gubbachchigalu" was screened at 14 international film festivals and was also recipient of a state award in the best child artist category.
Producer Manju is also ecstatic about a film with Mammootty.
"Abhay Simha has written a wonderful script for Mammootty sir. I am sure Kannada audience, who value quality in films, will welcome internationally acclaimed actor like Mammootty sir wholeheartedly.
"It is another attempt by my production house to make films with talented National Award winners like Kamal Haasan and Mammootty. The film will be simultaneously made in Kannada and Malayalam," said Manju who produced "Rama Shaama Bhaama" earlier. Labels: Mammootty Paleri Manickam

Debutant Vaishakh is directing 'Pokiri Raja' casting Mamootty and Prithwiraj to do the lead. The story tells about a school master's family. Madhavan was a model teacher of Kollanagode village. He has two sons Raja and Soorya. One day Raja left home and reached Madurai after an incident. Here he entered the world of goons and became a goon. Later Soorya too bacame a goon. Raja had courtesy only to a gang leader called Maniyannan and he was his God father. One day Raja reached Kochi after undertaking a quotation. Here he meets his brother after so many years.
Mamootty play the role of Raja and Prithwi as Soorya. Thilakan is Maniyannan. Under the banner of Mulakupaadam films Tomichan Mulakupaadam is producing the film. After a gap of 25 years Mamootty and Nadia Moidu are joining in 'Doubles' directed by debutant Sohan Sinu Lal. The film moves around a twin sister and her twin brother. He dons the role of a Grama Panchayat President Raghava Panicker. Panicker has been the president for the last fifteen years. His corruption and nepotism made him unpopular. A charity foundation has started under the guidance of Mamootty named 'Care and Share International Foundation' for helping the poor children suffering from heart disease, based at Kochi. Children below 12 years of age from Kerala and Lakshadweep would get help from this scheme. In the first step hundred children would get benefit. For those who need surgery will be carried at Sree Chithira Thirunal hospital at Thiruvananthapuram, MIMS at Kozhikode and Amritha Institute at Eranakulam. The foundation has signed MoU with these Hospitals. As a start of this programme each hospital will carry surgery today (Thursday) for one child. Foundation would spare Rs. One lakh for each surgery. It will receive donations from interested persons to serve the purpose. The selection process of children will be done under the guidance of doctors from a panel. The foundation was inaugurated by Mamootty at Kumbala Ramada resort in Kochi on Wednesday. A joint venture of superstar Mammooty and producer Anto Joseph, a production company named 'Play house' has opened at Pullepadi in Kochi last week. The company was inaugurated by director siddique and director, actor and producer Lal ina function. Dileep and Kunchacko Boban attended the function. Mamootty said, the aim of this production company is not only to produce films but to make dramas. First project of the company is the film `Rithu', to be directed by Syama Prasad. Jayaraj's 'Loud speaker will begin on June 10 at Thrissur. It is after sixteen years gap Mammootty is working in Jayaraj's film. Last film of this team was 'Johny walker'. Mammootty dons the role of Chacko who hails from a village called Thopramkudi of Idukki district. Chacko makes nuisance to people since he talks very loudly and always carries a radio with him. His nickname was Mike. In his very first appearance people felt that he was an irritating person but he was very sincere and good at heart. He reaches the city in search of Menon, a rich person. At last he finds Menon and stays with him. They became good friends. Grazy singh is the heroine. She dons the role of a nurse named Annie working with a private hospital.
Sasi Kumar, one of the prominent Journalists and founder chairman of Asianet channel and Director of Asian School of journalism makes appearance in the film. He dons the role of Menon.
Mammootty is supported by Kochin Haneefa, Bheeman Raghu, Salim Kumar, Jagathy, Augustin, Sai Kumar, Biju Menon, KPAC Lalitha, Kalpana, Saju Kodiyan and others. Guna will wield the camera. Superstar Mammootty was hold back in John F. Kennady airport at New York about two hours. On April 29 he boarrded on B.A 113 British airways flight from Chennai and landed in New York. In his passport the name was entered as Muhammed Kutty Ismail. The name noted suspicious in authorities list noticed and he was detained. Recently any person having this particular name is being scrutinised in U.S and Britain. The reason for the act is not known. An officer from Indian Consulate who came to know the problem rescued Mammootty. He was detained by the home land security of U.S to the defence wing. Mammooty fans Association Kozhikode District committee protested against the siege by MACTA on the set of Mammooty's `Daddy Cool'. In a press meet on Thursday at Kozhikode, Association president P.N. Alikoya and Secretary C.K. Murali alleged that MACTA members with the help of goondas tried to attack Mammooty. They urged that all the artistes should be given protection from these type of attacks. MACTA president Vinayan and general secretary Baiju Kottarakara said in a press meet that the decision of FEFKA to fight against their movement would not hamper the motive. The agitation would continue until FEFKA members stop refusing job to MACTA members. They were speaking in a press meet at Kochi on Tuesday. They said, the protest is against the producers who refuse job to light boys and technicians. It is not against Mammooty. Mega star Mammootty arrived at Jose Prakash's sons house to wish the old actor on his 84th birthday, at Vyitila near Ernakulam. Jose Prakash entered on a wheel chair to the main hall where Mammootty was sitting. Jose Prakash cut the cake and Mammootty served a piece of cake to him. Mammooty was aware of this day as Jose Prakash's brother Prem Prakash told Mammooty about his brothers birthday some days back. Mammooty has given assurance that he would be there to celebrate the birthday. Jose Prakash told that he was lucky that Mammootty still remembers him even though he is busy as a superstar. Mammootty is the hero. `Paleri Maanickam - Oru Paathira kolapathaka Kadha' is a novel published in Mathrubhoomi weekly written by T.P.Rajeeevan. It is a story based on the incident taken place at Paleri in Kozhikode district. The novelist goes deep in search of the truth. Ranjit got interested on this novel and is on his way to make a cinema casting Mammootty as the hero and supported by artistes from drama field. The hero of the film arrives right from Delhi to bring out the truth behind the murder and in this search he too tries to make his way of life. Super star Mammootty casted vote at Ernakulam, Kadavanthra health circle office polling booth. He came in a silver colour Pagero, wearing a black tea shirt and blue jeans. When Mammooty reached there voters in the queue broke their line and rushed to have a glimpse of their favorite hero. Mammootty entered the polling booth and quickly returned as he was forgot to take his identity card. People expressed their surprise that is it compulsory for a famous figure like super star Mammooty to have a card to cast vote. After some time his friend arrived with the identity card, he entered the booth and voted. Kalabhavan Mani and Mala Aravindan casted their vote in Chalakudy and Mala. MACTA federation workers protested at the shooting location of Mammooty on Tuesday, against the alleged job refusal. It is said that Mammooty has directed to fire six drivers from the Unit. The protest was infront a flat at Kakkanad in the evening where the shooting of `Daddy Cool' was going on. The protestors burnt the effigies of Mammooty and Sibi Malayil. Mammootty's Tamil film 'Junior-Senior' will be dubbed into Malayalam as 'Super'. Entire film was shot in Malaysia. Director is J Suresh. Leena Sidhu who selected as Miss Malaysia is the heroine of Mammootty in the film. Mammootty dons the role of highflying business man, Sathya Narayanan in Malaysia. Balu was his friend and associate in Sathya Narayanan's business. Leena was Balu's girlfriend. One day Balu came with Leena and introduced her to Sathya as his friend but he kept truth that she was girlfriend. Leena was very cunning. Sathya being rich she planned to hang on his back to fulfil her dreams. She dreamt to lead a lavish life and started loving Sathya. Later Balu acqainted that Sathya was in love with Leena but he was not in a condition to react. Haphazardly Sathya heard Leena's words about Balu. It opened her attitude to Balu and her motive. It is the mantra of success'', Mammooty's words accepted the audience including the veterans as wells as new comers, who attended the workshop conducted at Calicut, East Hill youth Hostel, for the new film `Paleri Manikkam, Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha', directed by Ranjith. Manju Warrier lit the lamp to open the camp. Dileep, John Paul, Jayaraj, Siddique, Lal Jose, Vijaya Raghavan, Kamal, Revathi and others guided the artistes. 31 actors were selected for the camp from the field of Drama. The film is making under the banner of AVA productions and Varna Chitra Big Screen. The shoot will start in June. Story is based on a murder case of a girl called Manikkam. The incident happened in Paleri, near Calicut in 1957. Mammooty will appear in a prominent role in the film. The heroine is not yet decided.

AJ: Mammootty's 'Maya Bazaar' - his new film with debutante director Thomas Sebastian, will start its shooting by the first week of next month.The movie which was originally planned for Christmas will now be a Ramzan release from the star. 'Pattanathil Bhootham'- a fantasy comic movie by Johny Antony with Mammootty which was originally poised to start by July will now be shifted for another two months. This movie will now get into the theatres only for this Christmas. The life of laborers, who work for demolishing old vehicles,is the background of 'Mayabazaar' which will feature two heroines. AJ: Mammootty's Vishu offering 'Annan Thampi' will not hit the theaters for this Vishu. The release of the movie has been postponed for another three days. Originally planned to hit the centers on April 14, the Vishu day, the movie will now be on theaters by the 17th of April. The movie which is already censored with an U certificate, still need its works on graphics to get completed. AJ: Mammootty, together with his fan club is planning to raise money to support 100 heart surgeries in Kerala. The fan club of the star has joined hands with the Noorul Islam Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram to fund, at least a 100 heart surgeries this year, for the poor patients. The formal inauguration of the free heart surgery programme at NIIMS took place on the evening of last Sunday at Kochi. AJ: Actor Jagadheesh is stepping to direction. His first movie in Mollywood will feature Mammootty in the lead. Jagadheesh has already finalized the project with Mammootty and Ajaychandran Nair -the producer of 'Anandhabhadram' and 'Chotta Mumbai' has already come up to produce the project. Mammootty has insisted Jagadheesh to script the movie. Jagadheesh also adds that he is planning to create a commercial movie which will be a total hilarious entertainer. AJ: Amritha Film awards announced. Mammootty and Meera Jasmine won the best actor and actress award in their performances in 'Ore Kadal'. Director Lal jose's 'Arabikkatha' bagged the award for the best film, Dhakshinamoorthy was selected for a special award for his contribution to Malayalam cinema. The award for the best director goes to shyamaprasad for 'Ore Kadal'. The recipients of the other awards that were announced includes Siddhique (Supporting actor), Ramya Krishnan(supporting actress), Ouseppachan (best music director), Anil Panachooran (Best lyricist), Dr K J Yesudas (best playback singer), Shwetha (best playback singer), Pattanam Rasheed (best makeup). AJ: Mammootty, has once again agreed to earmark his dates for another newcomer. This time, Shake, an assistant to Shaji Kailas gets the dates of Mammootty for a bilingual to be made simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam. AJ: Reliance Entertainments is venturing into Malayalam with the proud new film by director Shaji N Karun. The film which will feature Mammootty in the lead is titled 'Kutty Sharanku'. AJ: M Padmakumar's new Mammootty film titled 'Parunthu'. The film in the scripts of T A Rasaq tells the story of Gillettte Purushothaman, a crude money lender with an iron heart for grabbing money by any means from his dealers. Director Shafi who made it a superhit with Mammotty starrer Mayavi in 2007 is coming up with a sequel of the film. Shafi's recent film 'Chocolate' also was a success. Rafi and Mecartin who scripted the first version of Mayavi will pen the story and screenplay for the second part also. P. Rajan of Vaishakha Movies who did Mayavi will produce the new film too. With Mamootty, the major cast of the Mayavi team are also expected to be there in the film.

Yugapurshan which is the film based on the lives and contemporaries of Sreenarayana a guru will start its shooting by the end of March.
