`Kutty Srank' directed by Shaji N. Karun will be screened in the prestigious film Festival at PUSAN International Film Festival starting from October 8. It had a very successful premier screening at Montreal International Film Festival conducted on 3, 4 and 5 of September at prestigious Auditoriums of Imperial Cinema and Quarter Latin Cinemas. Kutty Srank says the story of a boatman (Mammootty) from the point of view of three women- An Aristocratic woman ( Padmapriya), Chavittunaatakam performer (Kamalini Mukherjee) and a dumb (Sri Lankan actress Meena Kumari). Kuttysrank introduced the first woman cinematographer in Malayalam feature films, Anjali Sukhla. The film is produced by Big Pictures of Reliance.

The release of Shaji N.Karun's Mamootty film 'Kutty srank' has got stayed by Kollam sub court. The court allowed stay by accepting a petition filed by A.R. Chandrasekhara Kurup and other members of the Azhakathu family. The plaintiff claimed that screening of some scenes shot at the ancestral home, deities placed in the Kalari and Sarpakavu would hurt them. They pleaded that those scenes should be removed from the film. Considering the case judge E. Baiju pronounced the stay on the release of the film. Kuttisrank is the first Malayalam movie to be produced by Reliance Entertainment.

AJ: Mammootty sung one song in his new Shaji N Karun's film 'Kuttyshranku'. He singing a Chavaittu Natakam based song. Isaac Thomas Kottukapally is the music director of the movie which has an entire big episode on the backdrop of Chavaittu Natakam -the folklore dance drama of Northern Kerala. Shaji already shot the visuals of this song which starts with 'Karikkutty..ente kalel'. Kamalini Mukherji, Padmapriya, Meenakumari, Sai Kumar, Siddique, Suresh Krishna are also playing important roles. The film Produced by Reliance Entertainments under the banner of Big Motion Pictures.

AJ: Director Shaji N. Karun is starting the shoot of his new film  'Kuttisranku', featuring Mammootty as a marine sailor who operates goods boat (charakku kapal) between Kondugnaloor and Kollam, through the backwaters of Kerala. Anil Ambani's Reliance Entertainments is producing the film in association with Shaji N. Karun. For the first time Mammootty who has done films with all the masters in Malayalam cinema is teaming up with Shaji. It is a long cherished dream of people who appreciate good cinema in Kerala. Meera Jasmine will also be playing a key role in the film. The locations chosen forKuttishranku are Kaavaalam, Kumarakom and Vaikkom, in the backwaters of central Travancore. The script for the film is penned jointly by Shaji N. Karun and noted British writer Farukh Dhondy.
