Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (IANS) Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal reigned supreme at the popular Ujala-Asianet Malayalam film awards 2009 announced here Sunday. While Mammootty bagged the 'Millennium actor award', Mohanlal was named best actor for his role in "Ividam Swargamanu".
Mammootty had more reason to cheer as his blockbuster movie "Pazhassi Raja" was adjudged as the best film. Renjith was named best director for "Paleri Manickam", which also stars Mamootty.
The names of the awardees were announced Sunday by Asianet Television officials. The award ceremony will be held here Jan 18.

As Malayalam filmdom is impatiently longing for the coming back of Kavya Madhavan, she expressed her decision to withdraw from the proposed project 'Maadankolli', directed by Major Ravi. She was asked to play the role of dual identity character. A ghost who wanders at night in search of blood and a police officer who investigates the murder that occured last night. Sunil Parameswaran has written the story. Kavya revealed her decision to withdraw from the film in an interview with a channel on Monday. She fears that the police officer role would not help her when she is trying for a comeback after her marriage and related problems. On the eve of Marriage, Kavya and Nishal arrived at MookambikaActress Kavya Madhavan and would be Nishal arrived wednesday evening at the abode of goddess of letters Mookambika devi, Kolloor. The marriage knot will be tied today (Thursday) before Mookambika Devi. Nishal arrived temple with his parents, followed by Kavya along with her father Madhavan and mother Syamala. A `Ganapathy Homam' has done to appease God Vigneshwara, in the name of Kavya there. Today the Muhurtham (Abhijith time) is in between 10.20 a.m and 10.50. Around hundred persons including close relatives and friends were only invited for the function at Mookambika. The reception for the people in cinema field is on Feb. 9, at Le Meredian Hotel, Ernakulam and another reception will be held at Kanhangad convention Auditorium for relatives on 12.

AJ: The Jesy Foundation announced for their last year film award. Ore Kadal' was selected the best movie. Adoor Gopalakrishanan selected as the best director. AJ: 'One Way Ticket' will be directed by Bipin Prabhakar who has impressed many with his debut stuff 'Khakhi' which also has Prithviraj in the lead. The pooja and recording of this film will be held at Ernakulam. One Way Ticket' produced by Thiruvenkidan Productions. The film will feature songs written by its heroine, Kavya Madhavan. The actress who had for quite some time writing poetry, secretly, was forced to pen a few for the film. Young music composer Rahulraj will tune the lyrics of Kavya. Kavya finally will pair with Mammoottyin the new movie "Rikshskaaran" directed by M.Padmakumar. Kavya will be paired as the heroine for the first time opposite Mammootty. Kavya is playing the role of Advocate Indulekha in the film , which is expected to hit the floors by the last week of November.
