Film Critics Awards Announced

AJ: Shyamaprasad's 'Ore Kadal' and Babu Thiruvalla's `Thaniye' shared the award for the  best film in the Critics Awards. Lohithadas 'Nivedyam' was chosen the second best film. Mohanlal was named the best actor for his performance in `Paradesi'  while Lakshmi Gopalaswamy's roles in `Paradesi'
and `Thaniye' fetched her the best actress award.

Shyamaprasad was named best director of the year. Adoor Gopalakrishnan would be conferred with `Chalachitra Rathnam' award for his contribution to cinema. Nedumudi Venu won the second best actor for his lead performance in 'Thaniye' while Sreenivasan was given a special award for acting and best screenplay. The awards in the music section went to East
coast Vijayan for best lyrics and M Jayachandran for best music direction.
 
The other awards that were announced includes Parvathi (second best actress) for 'Flash', Azhagappan (cinematography), Vijay Yesudas (male playback singer),Swetha Mohan (female
playback singer), P C Mohanan (editing), Kalavoor Ravikumar (director, best children's film), Bhama (best debut actor),  Sreelal Devaraj and M Mohanan (debut directors).The awards, instituted by Kerala Film Critics Association will give away in a ceremony, next month.

’Ore Kadal' Bagged The FIPRESCI Awards In IFFK

AJ: Iranian Film '10+4' and Spanish film 'XXY' shared the Swarna Chakoram awards of the 12th International Film Festival of Kerala.  Mania Akbari, the Director of 10+4 also bagged the 'Rajata Chakoram' award for the best Director. The Rajata Chakoram award for the debutant Director went to Luca Puenzo for her film XXY. 

The NETPAC award for the best Asian film was given to 'Getting Home' directed by Lou Ye Gui Gen.'Ore Kadal' by Shyamaprasad bagged the FIPRESCI prize and NETPAC awards in the Malayalam section. `Bliss' from Turkey by Abdulla Oguz got a special jury award for its exceptional direction. 

The Suvarna Chakoram award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a statuette and a citation, while the Rajatha Chakoram award for best director carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, a statuette and a citation.

Balachandra Menon Bags Prem Nazir Award

AJ: Famous actor, director Balachandra Menon will be honoured with this year's Prem Nazir award. The award, initiated by the Prem Nazir foundation, will be given to this national award winner for his wholesome contribution to Malayalam cinema.

Balachandra Menon is famous for his proficiency in all most all
fields of film making, including direction, music, acting, and editing. He has been the winner of national award for best acting in 'Samantharangal'. He is at present busy with his latest production 'De Ingottu Nokkiye' which has Jayasuriya in the lead.

The presentation will be made by the state chief minister V S Achuthanandan on the 16th of this month, in a function organised
by the foundation.

IFFK Opens With 'Buddha Collapsed in Shame'

AJ: The twelfth International Film Festival of Kerala, has been formally inaugurated by Kamal Hassan in a glittering ceremony in Nishaganthi Open Air Auditorium, which was attended by around five thousand film friendly delegates. Personalities including Mohanlal and Chilean director Miguil Littin were the centre of attraction in the star studded function. Famous personalities of the erstwhile Malayalam cinema were also honored in the function

After the inaugural ceremony IFFK 2007, opens proudlyby Hana Makhmalbaf was screened. Jury chairman Jiri Menzel has been replaced by Iranian director Jafar Panahi while Cuban film director Rigoberto Lopez has been added to the panel. The other members of the jury include an African actor cum director Naki Sy Savene, Polish scriptwriter Agnieska Holland and veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah.The competition section of these years IFFK has 14 films,including' 'Naalu Pennungal' by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and 'Parades'i by P T Kunjumuhammed.

AMMA Awards For Mammootty And Adoor

AJ: Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, (AMMA), initiated byU A E postal departments and snow white, which was announced. 'Ore Kadal' was selected as the best picture. Adoor Gopalakrishnan was named the best in director. Mammootty and Meera Jasmine bagged the best actor and actress award. The other awards are Supprting actors - Lalu Alex, Ramya Krishanan, screenplay - Iqbal Kuttipuram, Cinematography - Azhagappan, Singers - Yesudas, Sujatha, Music dirctor -Ouseppachan, Lyrics -Anil Panachooran, Popular film - Arabikkatha. The awards were announced according to the S M S and, Email received on various nominations. The awards will be distributed on the eighth of this month in a function organized at Dubai by Asia Vision and Indish Creations.

38th international film festival started

AJ: 38th international film festival of India inaugurated by Shahrukh khan, at Goa. The festival which will last for another 11 days will have around 200 feature films shown in various packages.Shyama Prasad's 'Ore Kadal', starring Mammootty and Meera Jasmine, will be the opening film in the Indian Panorama section.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan's 'Naalu Pennungal', based on four stories
of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, Lenin Rajendran's 'Rathri Mazha', Ranjith's 'Kaiyoppu' and Babu Thiruvalla's 'Thaniye',  are the other Malayalam films selected in the Panorama.

Paradesi and Naalu pennungal selected for IFFK

AJ: The 12th International Film Festival of Kerala will be held at
Thiruvananthapuram from 7th –14th December, 2007. The festival will
have 14 films in the competition section which is restricted to films
produced or co produced in Asia, Africa & Latin America between
September 2006 & August 2007. Adoor Gopalakrishnan's
Naalu Pennungal and P.T.Kunjumuhammed's Paradesi are sllected
for the festival. The other sections in the festival include world
cinema, documentaries, short fiction, retrospectives, homage's and
tributes. According to chalachithra academy, approximately 450 entries
in the various sections have been received".The registration for
delegates will start from the second week of November.

Innocent bags Sathyan film award

AJ: Popular Malayalam actor Innocent was chosen for this year's
Sathyan Film Award. The award was instituted in the memory of
legendary Malayalam actor Sathyan. A three-member jury headed by film
director K. Madhu chose the actor for this award.The award, which
carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a medallion, will be presented
to Innocent here on Sathyan's 60th birth anniversary on Nov 9.

5 Malayalam Films Selected for Indian Panorama

The Juries for the Indian Panorama Section of International Film Festival of India (IFFI)– 2007 recommended 21 feature and 15 non-feature films for screening at International Film Festival at Goa in November 2007. 5 Malayalam Films had been Selected for the Film Festival namely Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Naalu Pennungal, Lenin Rajendran's Ratri Mazha, Shyamaprasad's Ore Kadal, Renjith's Kayyoppu and Babu Thiruvalla's Thaniye.

Mohanlal and Padmapriya Bags Akashvani Award

`Notebook,'directed by Roshan Andrews, has won the first award instituted by Akashvani for films based on the judgment of its wide audience. Sathyan Anthikkad bags the best director award for his `Rasathandram. Mohanlal and Padmapriya were chosen as the best actor and actress award. Innocent was selected as the best character artiste and Jagathi Sreekumar the best comedian. K.J Jesudas and K.S Chitra were selected the best playback singers, while M.Jayachandran was adjudged the best music director. Vayalar Saratchandra Varma won the award for lyrics. The awards, adjudged by audience through letters and e-mails, would be given away on October 21 at Kochi.
