'Neelathamara' blooms around Kizhakumbattu, an ancestral home in a village. There is a temple near the home. Kunhjimalu and Sharothe Ammini arrive there daily to offer prayers . There was a belief among the people that, if anyone offers special prayer to the deity at this temple, a blue lotus will bloom in the pond near the temple. Kunhjimalu was Appukkuttan's uncle's daughter. One day Kunhjimalu was brought to Kizhakumbattu Malukutty Amma's house to do household work by Appu Kuttan. Haridas was the only son of Kizhakumbattu family. He returned home after completing higher studies. Later he fell in love with house maid Kunhji Malu. Archana dons the role of Kunhjimalu, Reema Kallungal dons the role of Sharothe Ammini, Kailesh as Haridas and Suresh as Appukuttan. They are supported by Samvritha Sunil, Devaki Amma and Joy Mathew. Lal Jose is directing the film. Screenplay by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. Vayalar Sarat Chandra Varma has penned the lyrics and Vidya Sagar has scored the music. Vijay Ulaganath is wielding the camera. Under the banner of Revathi Kalamandir, Menaka Suresh Kumar is producing the film. Mammooty's `Play house' will distribute the film. The shoot is progressing at Kuttippuram.
