2 beaches worth checking out are Kovalam in Trivandrum and varkala in quilon.
The easiest way would be to check out the latest lonely planet for a list of hotels etc to suit your budget.
After a break of seven years, I holidayed at Kovalam for 4 days in January and things have improved by leaps and bounds.
The beach is still trying to hang onto its idyllic fishing village reputation and failing quite miserably. The place is very commercial and has become a bit upmarket with plenty of hotels and resorts sprouting up in every nook and cranny.
A handful of hippie wanna be's can be still spotted on the beach and in the dingier hotels.
The beach is kept scrupulously clean and is definitely worth a visit. The place abounds with middle ages and older European couples catching the abundant sunshine.
