 Veteran film director K.S Sethu Madhavan has won the J.C. Daniel award (2009) for his comprehensive contributions to cinema, instituted by the State Government. The award includes a cash prize of Rs. One lakh and a statuette. Cultural affairs minister M.A. Baby who announced the award at Thiruvananthapuram said that Sethu Madhavan has creatively connected Malayalam literature to cinema. The Minister noted that Sethumadhavan was completing 50 years as a director this year. His first film was in Sinhalese, `Veera Vijaya' in 1960. 'Njaanasundari' which was released in 1961 was his first Malayalam film. Other films include 'Vaazhve Maayam' , 'Oodayil Ninnu' , 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal' , ' Ara Naazhika neram' , 'Thokkukal katha Parayunnu' , 'Oppol' , 'Kadalppaalam' , 'Oru penninte katha'. His Tamil film 'Marupakkam' has bagged President's Suvarna Mudra. He has won Kerala State film awards for his films `Vaazhve Mayam',1970, `Karakaanakkadal', 1971, `Pani Theeratha Veedu', 1972 and `Oppol', 1980. Film Director K.G. George headed the committee that selected Sethumadhavan for the Award. The other members of the jury were Chalachitra academy chairman K.R. Mohanan, Cameraman K. Ramachandran Babu and actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma.
