Ayyankali’s 143rd birth anniversary celebrations are being conducted at different parts of the state. Ayyankali was born on 14th Chingam, ME 1039 at Perunkattuvila in Venganoor in Trivandrum District. One among the seven children of a Pulaya family, he was illiterate. He married Chellamma of Manjamkuzhy Kottukal . Neyyattinkara. They had six sons and one daughter. Scheduled caste welfare Minister A. P. Anil Kumar in the presence of Kodikunnil Suresh and Ayyankali's grandson Sasidharan paid floral tribute at Ayyankali Square in Vellayambalam in Thiruvananthapuram. DIC State president K Muralidharan inaugurated the function at the statue of Ayyankali at Vellayambalam.
