Teachers, students share Devagiri’s triumph
Teachers, students share Devagiri’s triumphWednesday, March 9, 2005 | APAKOZHIKODE: The motivation and encouragement given by the teachers, coupled with the talent of the students, resulted in the spectacular performance of St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, at the Calicut University Inter-zone Arts Festival which concluded at Kunnamkulam the other day. The college emerged winners at the festival with 85 points - 40 points in stage items and 45 points in off-stage items. Opening up of the college for girls in Graduate courses is one of the reason for this win, said Fr. Joseph Vayalil, Principal of the College. ‘‘Till 2003 our college couldn’t participate in many events meant for girls alone. But now the situation has changed. But this alone is not the reason for the success. It is the combined effort of the teachers and the students that helped us to scale greater heights,’’ he said. ‘‘We also take care in admitting students with talents and this paid rich dividends. Teamwork is another strength of our college which itself speaks of the success story.’’ Experts in various art forms were brought from outside to train students. Fr. Joseph himself had gone to Kunnamkulam to motivate the students. A function was organised in the college on Monday to felicitate the team members who brought laurels to the college. Envisioned by the CMI congregation and established in 1956, Devagiri is the only college with an ‘A’ grade accreditation under the University of Calicut. It scored 88.15 per cent in the NAAC assessment, the highest secured by any college or University in Kerala. |
